Betrayal

I’ve been working in the palace for fifty three years now. I know almost every little secret of Solace family now. I am the buttler of this house. Since the head of the family, Gabriel Isla Solace, lost his joy the Palace gone quiet. Better tell the story from the start.

Since Gabriel born, the palace became less brutal and more cheerfull. He always tried to cheer up his mom, dad, siblings… even peasants working in the palace. He’d always try to help someone and made small gifts. Nearly everyone liked him except for envious and oppurtunist. We always tried to protect him from who’s rotten inside. He wasn’t stupid. He could distinguish bad from good. But no one knows which kind of a snake wants to attack the family’s, no, the palace’s joy?

He grew up to a handsome young man. Still hadn’t found the love. He always wanted a love marriage. Him being a romance book lover, of course everyone excepted him to want a love marriage. But he was becoming twenty one today. Time would pass like a second and he’d become the head of the family. A king without a queen? Absolutely not! I prayed for him to find a woman in his birthday ball. Fortunatly, he turned back to place with a stupid grin plastered to his face, he rushed to his dad. Their Majesties were sitting in the dinner table, enjoyind their meal.

“MOM, DAD, I’M IN LOVE!”  he beamed.

I blessed, my prayers were finally heard. All the mansion started suggesting to Gabriel about how to win a girl’s heart. He noted everything eagerly. But then overwhelmed by the options. Said he’d do this in his way. He prepared cookies all by himself, sent letters to the girl. The girl wasn’t looking like she was interested. She barely responded his letters. But thankfully he found the opportunity to talk to girl in another time, another ball. They got close to each other as time passes. I could sense the attraction between them, ‘Ah, young love!’ i tought.

Lady wasn’t coming to mansion often but young master was fine by it. He finally decided to purpose her. With an elegant, beautiful ring. I must say, the ring costed pretty much but when i saw that thirty-six teeth smile on Gabriel, i thought it was worth it. They engaged, but the lady always refused to spend a night with Gabriel. This was making him sad but he waited patiently for her to be ready. Months passed, their rooms still separate.

Few last days I was hearing Lady’s small whimpers. Like she was… Crying. Why? Also she was acting colder than normal.

Then the cruel scene appeared before a maid. Their majesties were killed. Stabbed more than one times with a dagger in their bedroom. It was probably early this morning. they tried to fight off but didn’t succeed. We cleaned up the mess. Waited Gabriel to wake up so we could repord the news to him. All the mansion became gloomy. Some maids crying their eyes out, some aree holding back tears. I’ve encountered a lot’s of death, more than I can count. But never been this emotional over somebody’s death who isn’t from my family.

After we told the news to Gabriel, he didn’t understood what was going on, he didn’t want to understood. The only thing came out of his mought was that he needed some time. Then he returned to his room. The room fell to a long silence when he left. We tought we needed to tell the news to his bride too. She was part of the family after all. But when we knocked to her room, she didn’t respond. After few knocks, we tought something happened to her and some female maids entered to her room. She wasn’t there. We searched all the mansion in panic just to find her. She wasn’t in the mansion, neither in garden. Then the pieces came together, arrows pointing one and only one culpit. Gabriel’s lover, wife killed their majesties. We waited Gabriel to at least take a breath to let him know the truth. When he learnt this, he tried killing himself… for a few times.

He didn’t ate nor slept properly for months. Pherhaps maybe years. Are you curious about how he lives now? He became cruel, never trusting to someone. Even me, the loyal buttler who was working for his family for a life time.
