Is it always necessary for people to tell the truth when it offends the other person’s feelings? This is a question that is relevant in real-life situations because it is often faced in the interactions of people in society. This is because words of truth and deception have different outcomes when people communicate.
Truth forms the foundation for trust. Truth in intimate relations such as friendships, relatives, and romantic relationships helps people feel safe and respected. By being truthful, one indicates that one takes care of the other and is accountable for their actions. This indicates that when one makes a mistake, being truthful can aid in correcting the error and changing for the better. Though it might not please people’s ears, being truthful can and will improve their relations.
In society, it is much more important. Truthful communication helps the group to stand together for the solution of any problem. For instance, at school, students require honest teachers for proper learning. In work life, employees and managers must be truthful to maintain a fair and successful environment. If in society someone continues telling lies, then it leads to complete confusion, injustice, and sometimes very serious problems. This is the reason why truth is often considered to be a moral value.
However, it is not always easy to tell the truth. Sometimes the truth may hurt someone’s feelings. In such situations, people may tell a lie to save others. These are usually known as “white lies.” For instance, if someone asks, “Do I look bad today?” a small lie may avoid sadness or embarrassment. Many people believe these lies are harmless and kind.
According to me, it is important to speak the truth, but this should be done in a kind and gentle manner. Truth does not comprise being rude and cruel. People can easily speak the truth while selecting kind words to use. By doing this, they will be able to guard feelings and, at the same time, adhere to the significance of truth. Eventually, this facilitates creation of better relations and society.
