Fake Universe: Metaverse

The concept of the metaverse first appeared in a novel by Neal Stephenson, published in 1992. The Metaverse is a virtual world beyond the universe where users represented by avatars, can shop, play games, socialize, participate in leisure activities, and more. People can be a part of this virtual world with the help of some technological devices such as phones, computers, apps, and virtual reality glasses.

These days, land in the metaverse world is sold to those who think that the land will appreciate in the future, especially in Turkey, which ranks first in sales. These lands are bought with digital currencies called crypto money.

The Metaverse has a lot of positive aspects if it is used correctly. For example, people can improve their knowledge with virtual classes, and visit everywhere without transportation, but it also has a lot of negative aspects, even more than the positive ones. Many people think that the metaverse can make our lives better and easier, but they forget to think about the other side of it. Metaverse may cause many health problems, such as vision and hearing problems, musculoskeletal problems, depression, irritability, anger, and boredom. Considering that metaverse technologies will develop more in the coming years, many more people will experience physical, mental, and social problems.

Imagine waking up and wearing your virtual reality glasses and holo suit that makes you feel like you are in virtual reality. You do sports, meet your friends, go to concerts, and life goes by. There’s no problem with the Metaverse universe; it’s just fun. You had a good time there, but then at one point, you realize that years have passed, you’re getting old; your health is not the same as before. You don’t know what’s going on in the world; all you know is your fantastic, unreal life in the metaverse universe. Seeing the realities of the world outside, such as global warming, wars, economic crises, and dozens of other catastrophes, makes you more connected to the metaverse universe. You become a complete part of that universe. Eventually, your perception of reality changes, and you believe that your real world is a metaverse. That makes you addicted to the world.

Although the metaverse universe, which is considered to be the reality of the future, has many benefits for people, it is a threat that can change people’s perception of reality. It also has many harmful effects on people’s physical and mental health.
