Mysterious Deaths

I was walking home from the supermarket when I got the news. More people found mysteriously dead at their homes; no sign of breaking in. Just a lot of the same. Five more, nine more…

But this was getting ridiculous. People were scared to go home. Nevertheless, it didn’t matter if they were home or another place to spend the night in; people were being found dead in hotel rooms, airbnb’s, hospitals and even in retirement homes. The last two would seem easy to explain, but believe me, they aren’t. People staying in hospitals who, for instance, suffered from leg injuries were dead with no actual cause. None of the people who died had any wounds or injuries relevant to their deaths. And staying with other people didn’t help either, because more than twelve dozens of people were found dead in their houses with their friends or relatives.

So as you can see, it was not the going outside that freaked everyone out; it was the staying in. People were sleeping on the streets in fear of their lives. “Experts” thought it was a group of people, like a gang, who were committing all these “murders”, but there is no proof that any of them were murders. Plus, some of the lead suspects were also dead. The worst part is, this has been going on for a whole month now. Soon enough, there will be no people left in America to kill.

Anyway, I got into my apartment and tidied the kitchen up (I know that me being in my apartment despite all those deaths may seem ridiculous, but people are dying no matter where they are, so it wouldn’t make a difference.) I prepared all the ingredients and started baking my birthday cake.

After what seemed like hours, the cake was done. So I put some candles on it, and whatever happened happened at that very moment, when I was blowing out the candles, the whole world went dark, and I felt a sharp pain in my heart and trembling in my body. It’s almost as if I could feel my soul leave my body and it was devastatingly painful… Then I found myself in a very crowded place.

I still don’t know why any of the deaths happened, but here, quite literally in the middle of nowhere, I can honestly say that I don’t care. People seem to be quite happy here, even though some of them were ripped from their families and their lives…
