The Happiest Day

I’m finally graduating. I finally have this job that I have dreamed of for years. That day is today. I am ready to receive my certificate.

Since my high school years, my biggest dream was to be a dentist and I was able to work and win the dentistry department. I studied dentistry at Hacettepe University and finished the school with the first rank. I hadn’t seen my father in many years. Because he didn’t want me to study dentistry. When I insisted on studying dentistry, there were some problems between us. I finished dentistry in 5 years and we had not seen my father for 5 years. He had never witnessed any of my achievements. He was not with me in this process. No matter how angry and upset I was with him, I wanted to feel him by my side in every success. Today was my last day at this school. I had to give a speech in front of everyone today, since I finished school with first place. I had already planned my speech. At least I would love to have my father with me today. Everyone there would be with their loved ones. The ceremony had begun. Our anthem was sung, everyone’s certificates were distributed, the teachers gave their speeches, the Hippocratic oath was taken, and it was my turn to speak. My name was announced and I was invited to the stage. My brother and mother were here. But I no longer had any hope that my father would come here. I stood on the podium in applause to give my speech. I was about to start talking when I saw him through the crowd. I wasn’t sure what I was seeing was real. After a while, I came to my senses and realized that my father really came to me. My voice trembled with excitement as I spoke. After I finished my speech, a cap throwing ceremony was held and the ceremony ended. That day was one of the happiest days of my life. After that day, we settled all the problems between me and my father, he told me for the first time in a long time that he was proud of me.
