WOMEN’S RIGHTS

’As a woman, I have no country.’’ Said Virginia Woolf. İn her time, 1900’s, women had no rights. She was someone who had been raped by her stepbrothers from an early age and knew that she was humiliated because she was a woman in society. Because of this she was a feminist writer who defended women rights all the time. The thing that she said actually represent old time women rights. She said that she has no country, that time women were excluded from the society. Women were treated as slaves and were shown as nothing compared to men. There was no place that women were free, or superior to men, no place that she can defend her rights. But she tried. She wrote so many piece that describe her feelings, also the gender equality. This thought led women to unite and defend their rights. Equality was achieved in this way, and thanks to the union of women, the right to vote and be elected, freedom of thought, dress and many other equalities were gained. And so today we are free, we are equal, but we have still a long way to go…
