There are many futuristic or sustainable city concepts, but when you take a look at some, you realize that all of them are talking about new concepts like flying cars, hyperloop systems, etc. Corporate greed is all over these concepts: flying cars to fill the pockets of motor companies or 500-story skyscrapers to trap people in one area so they go to the same supermarket, hospital, and school, thus creating a monopoly. Why not create a city using today’s technology? I’m going to take a conservative approach to futuristic cities.
Welcome to “Sustainatopia.” You are not greeted by massive highway intersections. Matter of fact, you can’t travel to the city center by car; you have to use public transportation. You travel by car for 10-20 km, then you park your car at the train station and take the Hyundai Rotem E32000 train to the city center. All of the track is electrified and self-sustaining; rails take the heat energy created by the wheels and transfer it to the nearby turbine station, where the heat turns the turbines and creates electricity.
This system is part of the “No Energy Loss” program, which we apply all around the city. When you arrive at the city center, there are no cars except for some service vehicles: ambulances, police cars, and fire trucks. All of them burn hydrogen. Citizens enjoy public transportation for longer distances and bike or walk for short distances. The city is inspired by nature. It’s in a constant loop, so it can sustain itself. Our city doesn’t allow big chains, we support local companies that use local produce. Our city is not relying on anybody else.
I hope all of this shows that it’s possible to build future cities today without relying on the “promised” technology from greedy companies that prioritize profit over the well-being of the world.
