When it comes to developing moral values, the first question that comes on mind is: “Does societal impositions play an important role in enchancing moral values?” Many researches show that it is enchanced by personal experience rather than societal impositions.
Each individual’s experience of life is unique. This is what creates the thing called “personal experience”. Every person experiences different things; one may learn while another achieves success or may be taken aback. Such things in life affects our future decisions on small or important things. The choices we make, is what creates “us”. Every mistake, choice, action or even learning from our mistakes contributes to our moral framework.
However, the thing that affects our development is not only personal experience, but the societal impositions. Society plays a significant role in shaping our decisions. People can look up to the ethical values that are accepted by society and change their personailty/behaviour to fit in. People have a fear of being left out or being criticised if they do not conform to societal expectations. Also, the cultural traditions and beliefs can modify individuals lifestyle or resolutions. They may have to enforce things in their living to integrate. Even social media can influence the individual’s thought processes. The person may envy the thing they saw on the internet moreover, this may affect them in a positive or a negative way.
To sum up, people can get affected by the outside impositions which is impossible to prevent such as: norms and values, pressure and obligation, cultural influences or social media. Nevertheless, this doesn’t change the reality which is our personal experiences. Of course, not all of our experiences are favorable. There are also counterproductive sides. This does not mean that we should change to fit in or get scared of being criticised. Since we all are different individuals, we are all unique in our own ways. Be original.
