One morning, I woke up and realized I could hear everyone’s inner voice.
At first, I thought I was dreaming. But when I went to school, I could hear my teacher thinking, “I hope these kids behave today.”
It was strange, but also kind of cool.
I heard my best friend think, “I don’t want to tell anyone, but I’m sad today.” So I gave her a hug.
The voices were loud at lunch. Everyone had secrets.
One boy thought, “I cheated on the test.”
A girl thought, “I wish I had more friends.”
Then I heard a voice that was different. It wasn’t from someone near me. It was inside me. It said,
“You are not like them. You are here to help.”
I looked in the mirror and saw my eyes glow—just a little.
That’s the part no one else sees.
That’s my secret.
And I think I’m ready to find out why.
