In my opinion spending too much time on social media is not good for young people’s mental health. Today, many young people use Instagram, TikTok, Snapchat, and other apps for many hours every day. This can cause problems for their minds and emotions.
Social media makes young people compare themselves with others. They see perfect pictures and videos online. Many of these photos are edited or fake. But young people think they are real. This can make them feel bad about their own lives. They can feel not good enough or not beautiful. This causes low self-confidence and sadness.
Social media can make people addicted. When people get likes or comments, they feel happy. But this feeling does not last long. So they want to go online again and again. They stop doing other things like studying, reading, or playing outside. This can cause stress, anxiety, and even depression.
Another problem is sleep. Many young people use their phones late at night. They scroll on TikTok or Instagram before sleeping. The light from the screen and the information they see make it hard to sleep well. Poor sleep also affects mental health. People become tired, angry, and less focused during the day.
To stop these problems, people need digital balance. This means using the internet and social media in a healthy way. First, individuals should limit their screen time. For example, they can use social media for only 1 or 2 hours a day. They can also turn off notifications, so they are not always checking their phone.
Also, families and schools can help. Parents can talk to their children about the dangers of too much social media. Schools can teach students how to use technology wisely. Teachers can plan activities that do not use phones, like sports or art.social media companies should be more responsible. They can show reminders to take a break. They can also remove harmful content that makes people feel bad.social media has good and bad sides. But if young people use it too much, it can hurt their mental health.
