Today, social media is a big part of young people’s lives. Many of them use apps like Instagram, TikTok, Snapchat, and Facebook every day. They use social media to talk to friends, watch videos, and share pictures. It can be fun and useful. But spending too much time on social media can be bad for mental health. In this text, I will share my opinion and explain what people and society can do to have better digital balance.
First, social media can cause stress and anxiety. Many young people compare themselves to others online. They see pictures of people who look perfect and have happy lives. This can make them feel bad about themselves. They may think, “Why is my life not like that?” But these pictures are not always real. People usually show only the good parts of their lives. They do not show the problems or the sad moments.
Second, social media can lead to addiction. Some young people cannot stop checking their phones. They spend many hours every day online. This can be a problem because they stop doing other important things like studying, sleeping, or talking to their families. Too much screen time can also make people feel tired and bored.
Another problem is cyberbullying. This means that someone says bad things or shares mean messages online. Cyberbullying can hurt people very much. It can make them feel alone, scared, or sad. Some young people do not want to go to school or talk to anyone because of this. Cyberbullying is a serious danger to mental health.
So, how can we fix this? What can people and society do to find digital balance?
First, young people should set time limits. They can decide to use social media only for one or two hours a day. They can also take breaks, like not using the phone during meals or before sleeping. This helps the brain rest.
Second, people should do more real-life activities. For example, playing sports, reading, meeting friends, or learning new skills. These things make people happy and help their mental health.
Also, parents and teachers should talk to young people about social media. They can teach them how to use it in a healthy way and how to stay safe online.
In conclusion, social media can be good, but too much time online can hurt young people’s minds. We all need to work together to use social media in a smart and healthy way.
