That day, there was a big match. The entire team had been preparing for it for days, and everyone was training flawlessly. But there was a problem: we hadn’t determined our roles. For example, would I be a defender or a forward? I didn’t know. No one knew what their position was.
Kaan was our team captain. One day, we gathered around him and bombarded him with questions. Of course, he wasn’t expecting this and was surprised, but he deserved it.
Okay, let’s fast forward. We assigned the roles one by one and then prepared even more for the match. We started training more often because our match was against Class 6C, and we were all worried about losing.
And guess what? We lost. There was no hope. Maybe the problem was our roles or our teamwork. I’m not saying we didn’t work, because we had trained hard for this match. Our roles weren’t perfect, but we were doing pretty well as a group. So, what was left? Determination. That’s right, we weren’t playing with determination. We were so sure we were going to lose that we didn’t even try our best.
We trained even harder for the second leg of the match. The roles were already set, and this time, we were even more certain of winning. Our hope was rising again.
Then, match day arrived. We were playing exceptionally well. To advance, we needed to win by more than two goals. I scored one, and Bilgehan scored the other. The referee announced five minutes of extra time. It was our last chance.
Then, Ege made a magnificent pass to me and ran towards the opposing team’s penalty area. I knew what to do. I chipped the ball with the tip of my foot and passed it to Ege. He made a magnificent header, sending the ball into the back of the net!
The whole team was overjoyed. We went for ice cream to celebrate, and I paid the bill. It was a great feeling.
