Children today often feel lonelier than children in the past for several reasons. One important reason is that technology now takes up a large part of daily life. Phones, tablets, and computers occupy most of children’s time, and face-to-face communication is decreasing. In the past, children spent time playing outside and interacting with each other, but today many spend hours in front of screens, which weakens real social connections.
Academic pressure also increases children’s loneliness. Heavy lessons, exams, and busy schedules make it difficult for them to spend quality time with friends. As a result, strong social bonds cannot form, and feelings of isolation grow. The spread of social media is another important factor. On social media, people usually share only their happiest moments, which makes many children feel inadequate, lonely, or excluded.
When all these factors come together, it becomes clear that children today experience more loneliness than children in the past. For this reason, creating healthy communication environments and supporting real social interactions have become more important than ever.
