Does Technology Help or Hurt Our Social Lives?

These days, technology is a big part of our daily lives. Many people say it helps us connect with others more easily. I agree with this to some extent. With just one click, we can talk to friends who live far away or even in different countries. Video calls and messages make it simple to stay in touch, and we never feel completely alone.

However, technology also has a negative side. One student said they have lots of “friends” on social media, but they aren’t real friends. I think this is true for many people. Online friendships can sometimes feel shallow because we only see the good parts of someone’s life. We don’t always share real problems or emotions. As a result, these friendships may not feel as strong as face-to-face ones.

Another problem is that spending too much time on our phones can stop us from talking to the people who are actually around us. For example, in a group, everyone might be staring at their screens instead of having a real conversation. This can make us feel isolated, even when we are not alone.

In my view, technology is useful, but we need to use it wisely. It should help us communicate, not replace real-life friendships. If we balance online and offline time, technology can improve our social lives instead of damaging them.
