Teachers Deserve More Than One Day

Why Teachers Deserve More Than One Day

Every year on Teachers’ Day, our school is filled with cards, flowers and cheerful messages. Yet, as one of my friends recently said, “Teachers work so hard and deserve more appreciation.” Another even suggested that “Every day should be Teachers’ Day, not just once a year!” These comments made me think about how often we take our teachers for granted, despite the huge role they play in our lives.

Teachers are not only responsible for helping us pass exams; they shape the way we think and who we become. They spend hours preparing lessons, marking assignments and finding creative ways to make learning more engaging. Many of them sacrifice their own free time to support students who are struggling or to organise extra activities. This level of commitment is something we often overlook.

I believe we should celebrate teachers more frequently, but this doesn’t mean we need grand events every day. Instead, small acts of appreciation can make a big difference. For example, we can participate actively in class, complete our work responsibly, or simply thank a teacher who has helped us. The school could also create monthly “Teacher Spotlight” features in the magazine to recognise their efforts.

Ultimately, appreciating teachers should be a consistent habit, not a once-a-year celebration. If we truly value their dedication, we should show it through our behaviour and attitude every single day. After all, teachers don’t just teach—they inspire, support and believe in us, even when we don’t believe in ourselves.
