Is Technology Changing Our Friendships?

Recently in class, we talked about how technology affects our social lives, and honestly, I think it goes both ways. On one hand, it really does make connecting easier. I have friends who moved to different cities, and without social media or messaging apps, I probably wouldn’t talk to them as much. It feels nice to stay in touch, even if we’re far away.

But the other side is a bit confusing. I see people, including myself sometimes, with tons of “friends” online, but only a few of them actually mean something. It’s strange how you can talk to people every day online and still feel a bit alone. A like or a comment doesn’t make someone a real friend.

Another thing I’ve noticed is that technology can make us forget how to be present. Even when we’re hanging out with friends, someone is always checking their phone. It kind of ruins the moment and makes conversations feel less real.

Still, I don’t think technology is completely bad. For some people, especially those who are shy, it’s actually a comfortable way to express themselves. It also helps us discover new interests and communities.

In the end, I believe technology only becomes a problem if we let it replace real connections. If we use it wisely, it can support our friendships instead of damaging them.
