Is Social Media Making Our Lives Better or Worse?

Nowadays, social media is playing a huge role in our lives. It is not just a communication tool anymore; it has become a very powerful platform that shapes our thoughts and daily habits. We are spending most of our time with screens and this increase in usage of technology raises an important question: “Is social media making our lives better or worse?”

On the one hand, it is undeniable that social media has made communication much easier. From now on, keeping in touch with someone is only a tap away, no matter how far they are. In other words, it helps us to stay emotionally connected with people, even physical distance separates us. Furthermore, while accessing information used to be demanding, today we can reach more knowledge with far less effort.

Despite all these benefits, social media comes with several drawbacks that cannot be ignored. One major disadvantage is addiction. Many people spend hours scrolling without realising how much time they lose and while scrolling short videos our body is constantly secreting dopamine, the hormone makes us feel happy. This instant access to dopamine causes a dramatic decrease in our ability to focus which can lead to some serious issues like ADHD.

All in all, a life without technology is impossible to imagine. Social media can be both harmful and helpful, it all depends on us and our usage habits. To prevent the harmful effects, we should be careful about the time we spend online and the way we use platforms.
