Underestimation of Young People and Its Effects

Nowadays, young people face many problems that vary in topic and severity. Although all of these have an impact—whether major or minor—on young people’s mental and physical health, there is one key problem: underestimation and miscommunication. Older people tend to underestimate young people, as they are often seen as weaker or less capable of performing certain activities. Although I believe this perception is wrong, it is not completely invalid. Older people generally have more experience in many aspects of daily life, and younger individuals may need their assistance to complete certain tasks.

This issue takes a huge toll on young people’s mental health, especially during the early stages of development. They may feel the need to constantly prove themselves capable, which can cause them to feel overwhelmed and directly affect their overall well-being. Despite this problem being very common worldwide, I believe it can still be solved. If adults work on treating younger individuals more like equals rather than inferior beings, this issue could be significantly reduced.
