The Sniper

Jaden. He was like a brother to me. We were friends for fourteen years. He was there for me every time I needed him. I trusted him with all my existence. He supported me unconditionally, even when I did something wrong. So, this time, it was my responsibility to do the same thing to him.

He showed up on my door late at night. “Lacy, I need your help. I did something terrible. Please. Help me.” I was extremely scared. But I accepted to help him. “Okay, come inside and sit. Then tell me what happened.” I spoke. I saw that he was covered in blood while he was taking off his shoes. His t-shirt, his pants, his jacket…  He sat on the sofa. “Look, I know- ugh… I know that this situation looks horrible but let me explain. I never told you this, but it seems now I have to. I was working as a sniper. I really needed money and I didn’t have any other chance.” He was crying. I couldn’t believe what he said. I thought that he would never hurt anything. “So, you say that you kill innocent lives just for money. When did you become that cruel, Jaden? I will help you, but don’t even dare to look at my face after all this is over, got it? You are dead to me. I cannot be friends with a killer.” I was frustrated. Tears were falling down through my cheeks. “Lacy, please try to understand me. The people I killed were not innocent. They all have done really bad things. Their actions were so bad, you can’t even imagine. Some authorities were paying me to kill them. I am not defending that bad people deserve to be killed, but I was penniless. If I didn’t take this job, I would probably be dead by now. After I recovered financially, I quitted immediately. But they wouldn’t leave me alone. They kept bothering me. They threatened me to get back to business. They tried to kill me. So, when they came for me, I acted before them. That’s why I am begging for your help.” Everything started to sit in my head like puzzle pieces. I knew that I needed to help him. “What do you want me to do, Jared?” I asked. “I want you to take the blame.”
