Should we always tell the truth?

We rely on people based on their behaviors. Also gaining people’s trust may seem like a basic thing however  it is quite difficult for people to confide their secrets in you.Being honest can make it much easier for people to trust you.We all know being honest is not lying but what if telling the truth will hurt someone.Should we tell the truth still knowing it will hurt someone or should we  tell a little lie for their goodness?

Telling the truth is nearly good in every situation because when you lie you are both deceiving the people you lie and yourself. You can fool everyone except yourself. No matter how realistic the lie you tell may seem, you will always know the truth yourself and that’s why you will always carry the guilty of lyling. Also the people who doesen’t lie seems reliable by other people and this will affect that persons social statue. On the other hand some people argue that white lies are necessary to protect others. The truth about something or someone may hurt people .For example your best friend got a new haircut but the haircut didn’t suit him well, he became very upset and asked to you if his haircut is really bad or not.In this situation you will probably say the haircut is good and suits him because if you say the truth he will be more sad.In this example it seems like telling a lie is a better option but there is a point we have overlooked.Little lies like this may become a habit in us and we may start to lie in every basic situation. If we do this we won’t be reliable.

In conclusion; although it also includes things said to avoid hurting people ,telling lies and fooling people is a bad thing.Telling the truth is essential for building trust. While white lies may seem helpful to avoid hurting others feelings, they can become a bad habit.I think the best way to remain reliable and a good friend is always being honest. There is a proverb in Turkish that says ‘A true friend tells the bitter truth.’which is a great example for our topic.
