A Day in the Life of a Child Fighting Hunger in Africa

I got out of bed early. I didn’t have any food, which made my stomach hurt in a sharp way. The sun was still not up. I went to the little lake to get water for my family. It’s the only water we have, but it’s filthy. Sometimes I wish we had clean water so we wouldn’t get sick so easily. I returned home to find just one piece of bread. I ate it slowly since it was all I had. I tried to enjoy every small bite, even though it didn’t help much.

I went to school after that. I found it difficult to focus because I was so hungry. There were other hungry kids as well, and I could see the tiredness in their eyes. We attempted to learn and study, but our stomachs were empty, and it was hard to concentrate. Still, our teacher encouraged us to keep going and reminded us that education could change our future.

I went shopping with my mom after school. We walked for a long time because we couldn’t afford much, but we still tried to find the best prices. Even though we didn’t buy many things, I was happy to spend time with her. I hope to eat as much as I want in the future, and I dream of a day when none of us will have to worry about food or clean water again.
