“Eating meat is bad for your health.” is one of many everyday vegetarian arguments. The topic of vegetarianism has been a big spotlight of debates since 1847.
Vegetarianism usually revolves around 2 big arguments. The first one is that, eating meat is bad for your health. While it is true that overconsumption of meat can increase cholesterol and cause coronary heart disease or cancer, it should be taken into consideration that meat is one of the best protein sources in the world. And the latter argument is that killing animals, even for food, is unethical. The problem is, the animals live an average life the whole time. And when the time of slaughter comes, they are stunned so that they don’t feel pain as they die.
The opposing side, the meat eaters could be said to revolve around 3 big points. Since meat being a great source of nutrients was already mentioned, let’s continue with how husbandry can actually improve the environment. As you know, most livestock graze. Where they graze is actually inarable land. And because the place they grazed grows back again, that land actually becomes more habitable for humans and animals alike. The last argument is that we have evolved this way. Even though it is not really a strong argument, it is true that we have nearly always been omnivores.
In conclusion, while overconsumption is unhealthy, eating meat can benefit the body and the environment. So, vegetarians, please go eat some meat.
