“If I were a cloud, I wouldn’t travel the world.”, said John. Those words broke the 20 minute silence in the room. “I would stay where I am, I think that would be more comfortable.” he followed. I wasn’t surprised, John was always like this. He never escaped his comfort zone, I guess that’s why he hadn’t had any major achievements in life. I didn’t answer, nor did I ask. I just looked at him with tired eyes as I sipped my apple juice. I knew he would never change.
It was at that moment when I saw someone. The face was familiar. “Is that Mike?”, I asked. John answered: “I think so, but I’d rather stay where I am than to talk with him.”. “You wouldn’t speak with anyone if you didn’t need to eat.”, I thought to myself. “I’m going.”, I said. John said with panic: “Wait! I don’t wanna go!”. I answered: “I said I am going, it has nothing to do with you.”. He looked at me as I concluded my speech: “You are a cloud John, you just need to befriend the wind.”.
As I walked towards Mike to talk with my old friend, I heard footsteps behind me. I couldn’t believe it, John was actually coming to talk with Mike, to whom he hasn’t spoken a word since 12th grade. “So, are you finally escaping your comfort zone?” I asked. “The wind has told me to do so.” He answered. I looked at him and smiled, a new John was standing in front of me.
We walked together, knowing this would be an unforgettable experience. When Mike saw us, I could see the excitement in his eyes. “Oh my god, John and Nurulah!” he shouted. We hugged Mike and spoke for a while. He invited us to dinner to talk more upon certain topics, we gladly accepted. We also learnt that he was the CEO of a very successful company, we congratulated him. We left as we thought about how fun the dinner would be
“Thank you, Nurullah.”, John said. “Without you, I wouldn’t have had this wonderful experience.”. I told him: “Well, I guess you should thank the wind for taking you there. You can finally be a free cloud.”.
