Creativity

When it comes to education, everyone has different perspectives. This is completely normal as people and their opinions are influenced by many factors. These factors can be the opinions of the people surrounding them usually family and close friends, culture, and geography. For example, Pablo Picasso is a Spanish artist and he has said that “Education restricts the free creativity of the individual.” Another example is Tolstoy who is a Russian writer. He has said that “Education helps people understand their social responsibilities.” In their case, they both have different ideas on education, and in their case, their professions may also have an effect on their perspectives.

My perspective on education is closer to Picasso’s perspective. I base this a lot on the country I live in and in my opinion its terrible education system. I don’t only believe that it restricts the free creativity of the individual but I think it also slowly kills the creativity of the individual with all the rules. As a result, we get individuals who only know how to follow orders without their own ideas. This is just simply sad as with time that passes we will end up with a society like robots and only a handful of people with their own ideas that control them. Picasso has also said that “All children are artists. The problem is how to remain an artist one they grow up.” What this really means that everyone has the potential to be creative and have innovative ideas as kids but as we go through school this changes. With exams school forces us to believe that there is only one correct answer. School also values subjects like math and science over subjects like music and art when they should be equally important. As children grow up they are unintentionally forced to spend more time on subjects like math as they have exams and only take up music and art as a hobby. Some don’t even have time for hobbies so they get completely removed from their life. This is what Picasso means by not being able to remain as an artist when they have grown up.

I believe that people should be able to choose their interests and schools should give the same amount of time for every subject. We need more creative people for innovative ideas in this world so it can become a better and more lively place. Otherwise, we will just end up living like robots.
