In today’s world, schools are the primary places where children are educated. The educational systems of the majority of countries around the world focus mainly on teaching theoretical knowledge. However, there are also some countries that are trying to give practical skills to their younglings. There are many different ideas about this issue. Which one is better? Giving practical skills or teaching theoretical knowledge?
Let’s start with the advantages of teaching theoretical knowledge. Having some theoretical knowledge helps students to correlate their knowledge with real life examples. For example, imagine a student studying engineering at a university. He is learning numerous things in his field of study. And after he graduates from his university, he will start working in a company. While he is working in a company he will have an opportunity to apply the informations that he had learned. When he has to solve a real life problem or when he has to overcome an obstacle, those information might be really helpful for him.
There are some negative aspects of learning theoretical knowledge. Over time, students start to learn more and more things in school. This will gradually fill the mind of the students with the informations that they can check in the internet whenever they need it. In addition, memorizing a large amount of information can be troublesome for students.
Another approach to educating students is teaching them practical skills, which might be more beneficial than the first option. Because by instructing some valuable skills to youngs, we can also make them ready for their future lifes. In the future, when the kids become adults, they will mostly use practical skills to overcome the obstacles that they have been occupied with.
However, focusing solely on practical skills can also be harmful. Because as we are the human beings, we should always try to evolve and improve our knowledge. We need to have general culture and some useful informations in mind, always ready in case of necessity.
To sum up, students need to learn both some theoretical knowledge and practical skills. However, as most of us will acknowledge, practical skills are more convenient.
