Have you ever listened carefully to a young person’s idea? If you look around, you’ll see that most people do not give any importance to the ideas of young people, even though they might be trying to tell us something that could be truly significant for the whole world. Young people’s ideas are not sufficiently considered in the steps of social decision-making. Isn’t that a huge issue? In my opinion, most people can understand that ignoring the ideas of young people is a serious problem.
Why should we take steps to increase the value given to youth? Have you ever seen one of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk’s quotes? He said that his hope lies in the youth because they are the future. Doesn’t this quote show us that we need to act quickly? Young people will become engineers, doctors, lecturers—or maybe even the ones who save the world in the future. If we don’t educate them and give enough value to their opinions, we won’t be able to improve ourselves and will end up facing many problems caused by irresponsible behaviour among the youth. Most parents judge their children because of their actions. However, they don’t consider their children’s ideas, and they don’t listen to them. As a result, these problems will continue unless we change our mindset.
What steps should be taken to increase the value given to youth? I’ve heard of a project focused on young people’s ideas. There is a box where young people can submit their opinions about social decision-making. In my opinion, it’s a brilliant project to help increase the value placed on youth. We need more projects like this. In addition, schools must take meaningful steps. While many colleges value students’ ideas, most public schools do not pay attention to their students’ voices. That’s why new lessons should be introduced to give students time to freely express their opinions on various topics. Furthermore, we must change our mindset about age. Many people believe that older individuals have all the knowledge, while young people know very little. If we continue thinking this way, we won’t be able to progress.
To sum up, we must take many steps to increase the value given to youth. We should realize how important their ideas are. Although we’ve started to make some progress, unfortunately, it’s still not enough.
