Thinking that you must always ‘look perfect’. Every day, every hour, every second… Comparing yourself with the people you don’t even know. Believing that they are better than you. Assuming that they are more beautiful, more successful, more ‘perfect’ than you. Are you familiar with this feeling?
I assume that we have all gone through this horrible feeling, at least once. You lose yourself at this comparison pool. You never stop comparing yourself with others. But have you ever delved deep to find the reason of this problem? There are multitude causes of this behaviour. Firstly, humans need for approval. People want to feel accepted and valued, so they compare themselves with other ‘perfect’ people, even with the ones they don’t know, to see if they are ‘good enough’. Secondly, we feel societal pressure on us. Society often matters to success, beauty, popularity etc. which pushes people to measure themselves against idealized features. The most important one, human nature. People are naturally prone to comparing themselves to others.
Knowing the reasons of this behaviour will help you to protect yourselves from this endless comparison mountain. The solutions are simple. In the first place, you should always remember that nobody is perfect. Everyone has some flaws. The perfect lives and people shown on the internet are completely surreal and nothing but deception. So, you should be aware of this and we shouldn’t compare ourselves with the things that are not real at all. You also need to know that society is not an establishment to evaluate us and decide we are enough or not. Only you can decide what you are. You are the only one who can evaluate you. So do not care about what people think about you. Nowadays, people usually compare themselves with the people on social media because our lives are intertwined with social media. To get away from the vicious cycle created by comparison, you should lower your social media usage. If you find some solutions for yourself based on these advises and integrate them to your life, you would start to feel happier and more peaceful.
In conclusion, stop comparing yourself with other people because this comparison will never end and it will captivate you even more. Be aware that you are valuable and you do not need to prove this to anyone but you. Know that nobody can be defined as perfect or flawless since we are human.
