I had never seen a place like this before, I was at the park when suddenly my eyes shut down for a second and then the adventure started. The trees were huge, with thick branches that reached up into the sky. Their leaves were a bright green under a strange blue sky. The air smelled fresh, like rain and soil, but also a little strange, like something I couldn’t describe. There was a soft mist on the ground, moving around my feet. Everything was quiet, but it felt like something important was about to happen. I had been walking home from school, thinking about homework and normal things, when I suddenly tripped over something hard and smooth. Before I could catch myself, I started falling—not down, but through. The world spun, and everything became a blur. Then, everything stopped. I was somewhere else, somewhere completely different.
The ground felt soft but firm under my feet as I looked around. There was a turquoise lake in the distance, shining brightly. But when I got closer, something made me feel uneasy. When I looked at my reflection in the water, it didn’t move with me. My hand went up, but my reflection stayed still, just watching me and smiling. But I wasn’t smiling. My heart started to pump faster, and I tried to understand what was going on when I heard a soft whisper behind me. I turned quickly and saw a tall figure standing near me. Its skin looked shiny, like liquid silver, and its bright eyes were staring straight at me. I felt like I should run, but I couldn’t move.
“You are in the In-Between,” the figure said in a calm voice.
“The what?” I asked, feeling scared and confused.
The figure lifted its hand, and a picture of a glowing red stone appeared in the air. It looked like it was pulsing, almost like a heartbeat. “Find the Heartstone in the forest,” it said. “Be careful. Locals do not welcome strangers.” And with that, the figure disappeared. I was left standing alone by the lake, the words still echoing in my mind. If I wanted to go home, I had to find this Heartstone. I didn’t know what the In-Between was or why I was here, but I knew I had to try.
I walked into the forest, which felt cold and dark. The trees were very close together, their branches blocking the sky. It felt like something was watching me. Strange sounds filled the air—whispers that seemed to come from nowhere, rustling leaves, and the low pitched growl of something far away. The deeper I went into the forest, the more nervous I became. After walking for a long time, I finally saw a red light glowing between the trees. My heart started beating faster. The Heartstone. I stepped closer, but suddenly, a deep growl stopped me. A huge creature, with glowing yellow eyes and sharp claws, appeared from the shadows. I froze. There was nowhere to run, and I didn’t think I could fight it. I remembered what the silver figure had said: the Heartstone was my only chance.
I didn’t think twice. I ran toward the glowing stone, hoping it would help. The moment my fingers touched the Heartstone, warmth spread through my body like sunlight. The creature stepped back, surprised. The light from the stone grew stronger, surrounding me in a bright glow. The creature howled in anger before it disappeared into the darkness. The ground shook beneath me, and a blinding light filled the air. I squeezed my eyes shut and held the Heartstone tightly. Then, as quickly as it all started, everything went silent.
When I opened my eyes, I was back in the park. The sky was gray, and I could hear cars in the distance. Leaves rustled in the wind. I blinked, unsure if everything I had just experienced had been a dream. I sat up slowly, my heart still racing. I opened my hand, half-expecting the Heartstone to be gone. But it was still there, glowing softly in my palm. It hadn’t been a dream. It was real. And now, I knew this wasn’t the end of the story. It was only the beginning.
