He came home tired as always. Studying all day long, going to football practice, extra French lessons, all of the homework he needed to get done… It was too much for him to handle.
He remembered that he hadn’t eaten dinner. It was very late at night and the only light in the apartment was coming from his room. Suddenly, the lights went out. He could hear voices whispering his name. Luke, a thin and mysterious voice said. It echoed around the house. He heard it one more time, but this time it was louder. It was so loud that he thought someone was behind him.
The mysterious voice started reading a poem:
In the dead of the night, when the world is still,
And the air grows cold with an eerie chill,
Ghouls and spectres begin to rise,
Underneath the blood-red moon’s cold eyes.
Luke quickly checked the window. The moon was blood red. Is this some kind of joke, he thought. As soon as the lights came back, he put on a jacket to go for a walk after this terrifying coincidence. He went down the stairs faster than the speed of light. His mind was like a jigsaw puzzle. Luke was very confused. How could have this happened, was it his imagination, was it because he wasn’t sleeping enough? He saw the black cat with the green eyes that he pets every day. But this time when Luke when next to it, the cat escaped. It had never done that before. Something was definitely off.
Luke decided to act like nothing had happened and continued walking. Everything seemed so familiar, as if he had lived this day before. Things got weird when the cat started talking:
_Poem is what you are looking for. I guess I should tell you more. Guess the word and you will be free. Get out of this horror movie, said the cat.
The boy was even more terrified now. He started running in the other direction but he couldn’t get rid of the cat. It was running next to him. It started talking again:
_If I were a cloud, I wouldn’t be around.
First the blood red moon, and now a cat speaking in rhyme? Luke fell to the ground while running. The cat stopped and took a deep breath:
_The trees, they whisper with voices low,
Of secrets buried long ago,
Graves stand silent, rows on rows,
As darkness in the graveyard grows.
The soil beneath him started changing. The buildings were turning into trees and graves were appearing. All of a sudden, Luke remembered the movie he was watching about a masked killer. What was the name of the movie? He decided to look around while thinking. He almost lost his mind when he saw a snake passing between his legs. It was the biggest he had ever seen. Luke needed to get out of this place immediately. He started running again but this time, he didn’t know where he was going.
The snake was following him. What am I going to do, he thought. He tripped and fell again. When he looked back, the snake wasn’t following him. It was Micheal Myers from the movie Halloween. What did I just say, he said to himself. Luke got up and smiled at the killer that was chasing him. He shouted Halloween at the top of his lungs.
Luke woke up to the sound of her mother calling for breakfast. He got up and went to the kitchen. His mother told him that he looked like he hadn’t slept well. She stared at his knee:
_When did you hit your knee. It wasn’t there yesterday, she said.
Luke took a look at his knee. He shook his head to say he didn’t know. But the wound in his knee meant that all of this was real. Was there a possibility that it would happen again? He laughed at himself and got dressed for school. Two things were for sure. He couldn’t wait to tell his friends and he was going to be Micheal Myers that night while collecting candy.
