Education is supposed to help us learn, grow, and discover new things. But in our country, the education system has become a big problem. Kids feel bored, and like they’re losing their freedom. This also makes families feel more stressed.
Pablo Picasso said, “Education restricts the individual’s free creativity.” This means that education can stop people from using their natural creativity because it tries to make everyone follow rules. I agree with Picasso more than Lev Tolstoy, who said, “Education helps people understand their social responsibilities.” In our country, I think education has turned into something that doesn’t let kids show themselves or think freely.
In other countries, kids might agree with Tolstoy because their schools are different. They don’t spend half the day at school or come home with lots of homework. Instead, they have time to do things they love. Families in those countries also don’t force kids to go to extra classes. Instead, they send their kids to courses or activities that they enjoy.
For example, in Turkey, if a child gets 100 in history and 55 in math, their parents might say, “Our child is bad at math, so we need to send them to a math tutor!” But in other countries, parents might say, “Our child loves history and is really good at it. Let’s send them to a history course so they can become a historian!” This is the difference.
This doesn’t only affect kids; it also makes parents sad. Kids feel so much pressure about school or hobbies. When this happens, they spend all their time on phones or tablets because they don’t have anything to enjoy.
Teachers can also make things harder. Some teachers give too much homework or get angry when kids don’t do good on tests. Sometimes, they might even punish kids. Of course, not all teachers are like this, but it happens often enough to be a problem.
We can solve these problems in many ways. For example, the Ministry of Education could change the system to give kids more freedom. If we can choose classes or activities that we like, it would make learning more fun and help our country grow.
Now you know how kids feel about education. Please fix this system and let kids have more freedom. Let’s go back to the great education system that Mustafa Kemal Atatürk gave us. Follow his example by loving and supporting children!
