Is Tech Helping Our Social Lives or Making Them Worse?

Let’s be real. Most of us are glued to our phones from the moment we wake up. Someone in class said, “It’s easy to connect with other people wherever they live,” and honestly, that’s true. You can meet someone from another country just by joining a group chat or playing a game online. It feels like the whole world is in your pocket.

But then another student said, “I’ve got lots of friends on social media, but they’re not real friends,” and yeah… I think a lot of us get that. Having tons of followers doesn’t mean you actually have people to talk to. People like your posts, but vanish when you really need someone. Sometimes it feels like we are all pretending to be social when we are actually alone in our rooms.

I don’t think technology is totally bad, though. It just depends on how we use it. If we spend all day scrolling, it gets boring and kind of depressing. But if we use it to make plans, talk to friends who live far away, or share stuff that actually means something, it can make our social lives better.

In the end, we just need some balance. Messaging is fine, but it is not the same as a real conversation. At the end of the day, nothing beats laughing with a real friend right in front of you.
