It was a nice summer day. I had just woken up and was about to have breakfast when I suddenly jumped at a noise coming from outside and ran to the window. Curious, I decided to investigate. However, when I went there, no one was around. I was quite puzzled by the mysterious noise but decided not to think about it too much.
After having breakfast, I went to work, even though a part of me still wanted to find out where the sound had come from. While I was deep in thought, I heard the same sound again — but this time, I decided to follow it. Once I reached the source, I realized it was the cry of a baby deer. It had wandered into the city and gotten stuck in a fence.
I quickly called the police and asked for help. They arrived soon after and carefully broke the fence so as not to scare the deer. Once they freed it, they took the deer into their care so it could heal.
A couple of weeks later, I called them to ask about the deer. They told me it had recovered faster than expected and had already been released back into the wild. I felt a bittersweet mix of emotions — sad that I wouldn’t see the deer again, but happy that it was free.
While all of this was happening, I had completely forgotten about work. As a result, I was horribly late — but it didn’t matter to me, because I had saved a life that day.
