Oh, My Ego

I have been training for three whole years for my bicycle race. I wasn’t really good at cycling when I was young. However, it made me more ambitious, so I trained a lot — A LOT! I had a weekly training program, with at least two hours of training every day.

Now, it’s time to get rewarded for one’s labor. Tomorrow, the races are going to start. I was so excited that I couldn’t sleep for an hour after I got into bed.

After all that, the day finally came. I prepared my clothes and gear, and took my bicycle to the car. The place was so crowded — to be honest, I wasn’t expecting that many people. I got into the race area and waited for the others. After five minutes, everyone was ready.

“Ready — Steady — GO!”

I started and was doing pretty well. I looked behind me and couldn’t see anyone, so I did some cool bicycle tricks. But while I was doing tricks, I fell. Everyone overtook me.

I got up immediately and continued the race. I was so fast that I became second, but the race wasn’t over yet. The first racer was really fast. I was racing against the seconds, and at that moment, I wished for a miracle — but it didn’t happen.

Because of my ego, all my efforts went in vain.
