A considerable amount of time could be spent contemplating whether reading or writing is the more effective method for a person to express themselves. It is a subtle distinction, and one that I feel deserves careful thought.
Fundamentally, writing is a creative endeavor. It requires actively engaging with one’s inner thoughts, translating abstract ideas into a concrete form. Choosing the right words, constructing clear sentences, and shaping a narrative all contribute to carefully controlling how personal experiences are communicated. This control is especially useful when dealing with complex emotional or intellectual subjects. Writing offers a personal space for reflection, where one can explore and refine their viewpoints without immediate outside feedback. Essentially, it’s a direct connection to one’s internal self. In contrast, reading is a receptive activity. It introduces individuals to a range of viewpoints, writing styles, and life stories. By immersing oneself in the works of others, one builds a wider vocabulary, gains a deeper understanding of human nature, and better understands their own position in the world. Reading encourages empathy and intellectual growth, which indirectly improves self-expression by providing a more complete way to understand and communicate personal thoughts. However, despite the clear benefits of reading for developing expressive abilities, I believe that writing provides a more immediate and powerful way to express oneself. The creative act of writing requires a deeper connection to one’s inner thoughts. It forces a person to clarify their ideas, confront their biases, and precisely communicate their unique perspective. It is, in essence, the difference between gathering materials and building a structure.
In a nutshell, although without reading, writing is pointless, one could say that writing is permanent where reading is volatile. We whould remember that the ones that brought us into this point in technology are the pas writings. People wanted their future generation to know what they have accomplished so far in their world, thus they wrote down the achievements at the best of their facilities. This brings us to the expicit fact that writing has outsurvived reading as it has proven itself that it is one of the best ways a human can express him/herself.
