Sports

Do sports really play a role in building a teen’s character, or at least, do they get enough recognition? Well, yes, they do, but perhaps more than they deserve. Why, you may ask? Sports are beneficial for the body and help build discipline, but they are often overemphasized. In almost every article you read, sports are mentioned, but when was the last time you read about other activities, like reading, for example, in the context of building discipline? I assure you, reading is just as helpful. Sitting still and concentrating on one thing is difficult, but it teaches patience and focus too.

Sports are mentioned everywhere, which is why I believe they receive unnecessary attention. Sure, they are beneficial, and I never said they aren’t. However, I don’t believe that doing sports is the best or only way to develop character. The constant focus on sports makes me think they are overrated.
