One day I woke up like usual. My dog was waiting for me to pet him
I rubbed his soft ears and said, “Good morning buddy.” But this time, he didn’t just barked he answered.
“About time you got up, I’ve been waiting forever.”
I froze. My hand hovered mid-air. I looked around. No one else was home. I stared down at him. “Did… you just talk?”
He tilted his head. “Of course I did. You finally heard me! This took long enough.”
My heart was racing. I got on my bed again. “This has to be a dream.”
“Nope,” he said, hopping up on the bed like it was the most normal thing in the world. “You can talk to animals now. Well, hear us, really. We’ve always been talking to you humans are just usually too noisy to notice.”
I blinked. “Wait. all animals?”
I walked to my window and opened it. A pigeon landed on the sill and looked straight at me. “Hey, can you stop feeding us bread?
It messes with our stomachs.”
I almost fell over.
By lunchtime, I’d already had conversations with a squirrel , a cat, and a goldfish (very dramatic about his 30-second memory). My life had completely changed.
