Over the years, technology has gained huge popularity amongst humanity and has affected our lives in numerous ways. One of the main areas that was changed by the growth in the usage of technology was our social lives. Some people believe that social media made communication easily accessible, while some find it hard to believe that people actually create friendships via those platforms. So, how has technology really affected us in a social context?
When the internet was not something everyone had in their houses, children had no other choice than spending their time playing with their friends, siblings, or other family members. They would play house, run after balls, or hide behind a tree to prevent the seeker from finding them. However, nowadays most kids play games online. And while doing so, they’re alone and isolated from the outside world most of the time. So, it’s safe to state that kids lack face-to-face socialization and communication with their peers.
However, the adults are not in a position to complain either. Everyone is always scrolling on social media, even though they’re with their friends and family. Those neighborhood kids who used to spend their entire days with their loved ones have turned into neglectful parents who are always busy with their phones. And this means that technology has affected family relationships negatively as well.
To summarize, it’s no secret that technology has made our lives easier. However, it highly affected our social lives by making us forget the really important things in life: Communication and socialization.
