Before new medicines are given to people, scientists usually test them on animals first. They do this to check if the medicine is safe and to see how it affects a living body. These tests help scientists understand if a medicine might cause problems before it is used by humans.
However, testing on animals can sometimes be harmful. It can damage nature and disturb the food chain. For example, some animals might become extinct, and this can harm the whole ecosystem. People may lose important food sources and face many other problems.
Because of these issues, many scientists are working hard to find new, safer ways to test medicines. If I were a scientist, I would try to use technology—such as computer simulations, artificial organs, or lab-grown cells—to test medicines instead of using animals.
