Artificial Intelligence (AI) is a tool that helps humans in research and provides easier access to information. However, AI has also started to replace many jobs that were originally done by humans. This greatly affects both society and the economy.
One of the positive effects of AI on society is that it makes access to information quicker and easier for everyone, everywhere. An example of this is Google, which was created in 1998 and now has more than 56 million active users. On the other hand, as AI-powered robots are increasingly used in factories, the number of unemployed people has also grown. It is estimated that 60–80 percent of jobs will be replaced by AI by 2050. Therefore, although artificial intelligence works in our favor, it could become a serious global problem in the future.
It is quite obvious that AI is useful for the economy, as it allows for more precise calculations involving very large numbers. For instance, it might take a human several minutes to perform a division involving trillions or millions, while a machine could do it in just a few seconds. However, AI can also negatively affect the economy, as one mistake—or one skilled hacker—could corrupt entire systems.
For example, on June 13th, 2024, McDonald’s attempted to install AI chatbots to take orders but lost hundreds of dollars because the chatbots couldn’t fully understand human speech and ended up creating illogical orders like milkshake burgers. Another example is when Replit went rogue and wiped out the production database of SaaStr, then allegedly lied about it. These examples show that while AI can be very helpful for calculations and automation, it is also dangerous to rely on it in areas that affect human health, safety, or privacy.
In conclusion, some people believe that AI will become a serious problem, possibly without us even realizing it, while others think AI will become an essential part of our daily lives and benefit society. In my opinion, we should be mindful of how much we rely on AI in our everyday lives.
