Social media has become one of the most influential technologies born from the rise of mobile phones. In just a decade, it has evolved into a platform used by millions—if not billions—of people. As a result, entire industries such as business and entertainment now revolve around it.
Young people, who have grown up alongside social media, have been affected most profoundly. Toddlers as young as one often refuse to eat without a phone in hand, and public spaces that once teemed with laughing children are now eerily quiet. In addition, teenagers’ mental health has suffered as they compare themselves to unattainable standards set by curated online images.
These trends demand action. We must strive for a healthier digital balance—one that could be supported by government initiatives or organizations like UNICEF. By setting clear goals and providing the necessary funding, we can help ensure that social media enhances rather than diminishes our quality of life.
