THE LIGHT COMING FROM THE WINDOW

It all started the moment that strange light streamed through the window. Now, when I think about it, I wish I had kept the window closed that day.

It was a normal morning. I woke up around seven or seven thirty, brushed my teeth, had breakfast, and got ready for school. It had rained a little the night before, so I asked my father if he could drop me off. He agreed, and we set off. I barely made it to class—I was almost late. My father couldn’t afford to be late for work, so he scolded me a little on the way and complained about it afterward.

At school, time passed slowly, but somehow the day finally ended. I came home, played some games, had dinner, and did my homework. Everything felt completely ordinary. About an hour after going to bed, however, I noticed a strange light outside my window. It was getting bigger and brighter, and I couldn’t understand what it was. Just as I was about to go tell my mother, the light came through the window, and I fell to the floor.

My parents must have heard the noise because they rushed into my room. They helped me up, gave me some water, and asked how I had fallen. I pointed to something on the floor that was glowing intensely. I couldn’t even tell what it was. My father tried to pick it up, but his hand was badly burned. He tried again with gloves, but they melted instantly. Then he used tongs, yet his hand was burned once more. One last time, he tried using both gloves and tongs. He managed to lift it a few centimeters, but his hand was burned again. Finally, he gave up and said we would try again in the morning, once it had cooled down.

When I woke up the next day, I didn’t notice the object on the floor at first, and I stepped on it, burning my foot badly. That was when I realized something strange—the object was slowly turning green and growing slightly larger. I immediately told my father, and he called the authorities.

They arrived and tried to remove the substance, but it had suddenly become extremely heavy. After four unsuccessful attempts, they finally placed it into something that looked like a glass jar. I was surprised that the jar didn’t melt; it must have been made of some kind of special, durable glass. However, the object left a large mark on the floor, and for reasons I still don’t fully understand, the entire floor of the house had to be replaced.
