The New Language

When I woke up that morning, I had no idea what had happened to the world overnight. As usual, I slowly got out of bed and headed downstairs to the kitchen to have breakfast. When I walked into the kitchen, I saw my mom sitting on a chair, staring at her phone and looking confused. When she saw me, she said good morning, but something felt strange. It wasn’t English or any other language I had heard before, yet I could still understand it.

I tried to answer in English, but everything I said turned into strange sounds. My mom slowly nodded as if she understood and turned on the TV. It was the news. There were reporters, scientists, and linguistics professors talking about the new language. They looked just as surprised as I was. They were trying to understand the reason behind the sudden appearance of this language. After listening for a few minutes, I realized this was happening all around the world, not just in our country. The whole world was now speaking one single language.

Even though the world was going through one of the strangest days in history, I still had to go to school, so I got ready and left the house.

From that day on, the world spoke only one language. There was no longer a language barrier between people from different countries. Surprisingly, this helped make the world a better place. Relationships between governments improved, and agreements became easier and more frequent. It made everyone feel like they truly belonged to one world — something we should have believed from the start.
