The Secret Life of Pets

One morning, I woke up as usual—had breakfast, got dressed, and left the house to go to school. I was about to get into the car in front of our building when—what the heck? One of the cats from our complex, sitting by the door, looked at me and said, “Good morning!”

I froze, surprised, trying to understand what was happening. It was such a strange and amazing feeling! I replied, “Good morning,” gently petted her head, and left for school—still in shock.

When I arrived at school, things got even weirder. At the entrance, a street dog was lying by the gate. “Good morning,” I said.
“Good morning,” he replied back, just like that.

Yes, this was definitely a different kind of day. Somehow, I could talk to animals. I could hear their voices.

After school, I rushed home and went straight to the cats.
“Are you hungry?” I asked.
One of them replied, “They gave me food this morning, but I didn’t get any water. I’m really thirsty.”

I immediately brought him some water. While he drank, we talked for a while.

I asked, “How do people treat you? Are you ever afraid of them?”

He looked up and said, “Some of my friends who live on the streets are treated badly. People hurt them… and yes, it makes them very sad. Sometimes we go hungry too.”
