I couldn’t believe what I saw when I opened my eyes. Normally, I slept in my own bed, but this time I was in a huge room—three times bigger than mine! There were so many people running around, doing something, or just standing there. Someone came near me and looked at me carefully. She was very beautiful, with bluish-black hair and gray eyes. When I looked at her, she ran and whispered something to the closest woman. As I said, there were so many people there, and when she whispered to that woman, everyone turned and looked at me.
I didn’t know where I was, so I got up and asked. No one answered. I asked again, and again they said nothing. I was running out of patience. Then the girl with gray eyes came near me and started talking:
“Do you really not know where you are?”
“Do I look like I’m joking? Of course not!” She laughed.
“Okay, calm down. I just wanted to be sure. You are in the Elyvian Kingdom now.”
When she said that, this time I started laughing.
“You must be kidding me. For God’s sake, we’re in the 21st century—there isn’t even a kingdom in this era!” She glanced behind her anxiously.
“Are you okay?”
“Yes?”
“Are you sure? Because we are in the 4th century.”
Everything started spinning around me. Was it a dream? Or had I lost my mind?
“But how? I was sleeping at home, and then I—oh my God!”
“What?”
My neighbor Tony was an inventor, and he was a super genius. He once told me he had done something dangerous and caused a time warp, but I hadn’t taken him seriously. At that moment, unfortunately, I realized he had been right. I was furious.
“If he really did that, I swear—”
“Can’t you just tell me what’s happening now?”
I told her everything, but she laughed at me. I realized she needed some proof. I stood up and looked at her.
“Look at me. Do I look like you? You’re wearing a crown, and all the women here are wearing dresses—but I’m wearing pajamas!”
“That’s because you were sleeping.”
“Okay, but have you ever seen me here before? Was I sleeping in this room when you came last night?”
“No.”
“That’s because I’m not from here, you stubborn girl.”
She laughed again. My God, why was she laughing so much?
“Oh, my name is Nora, by the way.”
“Mine is Laura. Actually, our names are almost spelled the same.”
“Yes. Since you’re here, why don’t we walk and talk? Meanwhile, I can show you the palace.”
I nodded.
I was getting more and more used to her. She was actually a very nice girl. She told me her father was very strict with her. She was the sole heir to the throne, which kept her incredibly busy. She took lessons for everything. When she told me she even had a lesson on how to say “thank you” politely, I laughed way too much.
While she was showing me the big backyard, my head started spinning again and everything became blurry. The last thing I remembered was the anxious look on her face.
When I opened my eyes, I saw Tony looking at me, worried.
“Laura! Thank God you’re okay. I’m so sorry—I didn’t think the time warp could be that strong, and I—”
I laughed.
“Forget about it. Did I tell you I have a friend from the 4th century?”
He looked at me like I was a monster. I spent the whole day telling him about my little adventure.
