This topic is a common debate among students, teachers, and parents.
Theoretical knowledge is the knowledge we learn from books and lessons, such as scientific formulas, historical facts, and grammar rules. Practical skills, on the other hand, are the skills we learn by doing, such as experiments and solving real-life problems. I believe that practical learning is better. Here are my reasons:
To begin with, practice builds real-life skills. When you practice something, you learn how to use it in real-life situations. It is not like theoretical knowledge, which mainly helps you understand information in textbooks. Practical education teaches skills that are useful in everyday life, unlike theoretical education, which stays more abstract.
Secondly, practical education improves memory and understanding. We remember things more easily when we learn by doing rather than just reading from a book or listening to a lecture. For example, if you learn how to drive a car by actually doing it, you will learn it much more easily than if you try to learn it from a book. In fact, if you only rely on a book, it might take you years to understand it fully! Practice helps you understand deeply and remember for a long time, while theory is often harder to grasp and easier to forget.
Thirdly, practice develops problem-solving and critical thinking skills. When you practice, you face real problems and learn how to solve them in practical ways. Facing a problem teaches you how to respond creatively, critically, and quickly. However, theory does not teach you how to face or solve real-life problems, so practice improves your thinking skills, unlike theory.
Lastly, doing something through practice makes you feel more confident, especially when you do it successfully. Theory alone does not give you that feeling. It can sometimes be boring, while practice boosts your enthusiasm for learning, which helps you learn better and more effectively.
To sum up, although theory is important, it is almost meaningless without practice. Learning how to apply knowledge in real life is much more important than just knowing it.
