To Eat Meat or Not to Eat Meat

“Being vegetarian protects the environment” might be a sentence which only has five words but still has managed to spike one of the biggest debates in modern century. To eat meat or not to eat meat. Is it actually that simple?

Meat is the main source of protein in a regular diet. As it is digested and used more efficiently compared to a vegetarian protein source, the vast majority of people has meat to thank for their protein intake. It is also highly accommodable with many cultures seeing meat as the main ingredient in their dishes. It is also worth mentioning that many people have a liking to the taste of meat.

As good as having a nice plate of lamb might sound appealing to many, it is actually directly related to pollution and environmental harm.  A big percentage of lands in agriculture is dedicated to feeding livestock. It is undeniable that we would have had more land to ourselves if we all became vegetarian and consumed plants. The process of the livestock becoming a steak also is a big contributor to our carbon footprint.

It might sound like eating meat is a horrible choice for our environment but thinking our problems would be solved if we stopped eating meat would be rather unrealistic. Meat isn’t only food; it also connects people with the dishes they share or the food we eat without worrying if we are the problem. Moreover, a healthy and a nutritious option to elevate the protein in any meal. So, my take would be that eating meat in moderation is the best option.
