Vegetarianism has always been an unnecessarily heated source of discussion. Not only does someone’s choice of habit not concern you, but it is also for the same reason that people shouldn’t have to be so passionate in stating that “It’s a part of the life cycle”. Other than this, however, to the general public, meat has no scientifically proven detriment or a belief that discourages its consumption. Meanwhile, there are concerns about the ethics surrounding farm animals that are used to make non-vegan food and other new things that arise that haven’t been brought to the public’s attention very much.
To start eating meat and killing animals for it is not pure cruelty by itself, in my opinion, boringly low, today’s standards of ethics, since it actually is a part of the ecosystem, though it is a cliché. Not to mention, meat easily provides vital proteins to our bodies, and not everyone might want to consume the vegetarian protein options, or have the knowledge to balance their nutrition with such a big change in diet, which would open up a whole can of misinformation about nutrition to a wider audience.
Yet, these are very minor inconveniences when compared to the cruelty done to animals and the environment when mass-producing meat and other products. In almost every farm, animals are treated extremely inhumanely. What is more is that these animals that are forced to breed for an entire lifetime in a confined space also increase greenhouse gases, and noticeable in charts.
In a nutshell, I believe that though we are animals, that should not mean that we should act like them when it suits us and say it is a part of the cycle. There are many other substitutions for meat, and people with the stability to make such a change should start, even if with small steps.
