Virtual Shopping: Is It Safe and Convenient?

Virtual shopping was not very popular five years ago because people didn’t trust the internet. Back then, most people preferred to buy things from stores or shopping malls. But why are more people shopping online instead of going to malls or stores today?

When the coronavirus became a deadly and long-lasting disease, many countries banned people from going out except for emergencies. So, people started trying online shopping for the first time. As time passed, they realized this was much more convenient than going to the mall. Shopping in malls took a lot of time — driving there, dealing with heavy Sunday traffic (especially when schools were closed), searching for parking spaces, waiting in long lines, and sometimes not even finding the size or product you wanted. Also, most malls don’t have windows, so shoppers lose track of time and weather, and end up spending more.

So, is shopping online a good thing? Well, if you use safe apps like Trendyol, Hepsiburada, or other trusted platforms known for their quality and security, it’s definitely safe and convenient. But what about unsafe websites or scams? Unfortunately, there are people who try to trick others. For example, some scammers pick a random house and deliver a box with the name of a well-known site like Trendyol. When you say you didn’t order anything, they apologize and ask you to sign paperwork — but in reality, this may give them access to your bank account or personal information. So, we need to be very careful and stay aware of these scams.

After reading this blog, let’s all remember to be cautious with anything we purchase online. And of course, avoid buying from untrusted places like Facebook Marketplace. Recent studies have shown that between 2010 and 2025, online shopping worldwide has increased by 64%. This shows how popular it has become — but safety should always come first!
