Voices around me

One morning when I woke up, I realized that I could hear and understand what people were thinking inside their heads. I discovered this when I was getting ready for school. I waved at my mom, but an inner voice, just like her own, started to echo in my mind: “What should I do for dinner? Did I forget something important today?” When I heard that voice, my brain was filled with so many questions, and I left the house, feeling confused.

At school, it was the same. When I spoke with someone, I would hear a voice echoing in my mind: “What’s Thursday’s homework? Should I check it now?” Even though she spoke, I couldn’t understand what she had said, so I just nodded.

When school was over, I started walking home. That’s when a lady began walking with me. I wasn’t disturbed; instead, I felt relieved because nobody’s voice was echoing in my mind. But to my surprise, I was wrong. Now, the lady’s voice echoed in my head: “Ugh, when will I arrive at the bus stop? This road is crazy!”

When I arrived home, I lay in my bed and hoped this strange experience would end.
