What Happens to Our Neurological System When We Try Something New?

Trying a new activity is something most people are afraid to do. They are used to routines and doing the same things, but trying something new has many positive effects.

When you try a new activity, your brain changes. New nerve cells and connections form in regions that release dopamine and serotonin, two chemicals that create feelings of happiness and relaxation. Doing the same thing over and over again can feel boring, but trying something new gives a feeling of refreshment.

Doing something new is like bringing back the sense of awe that children have, because you are experiencing something exciting for the first time. It also strengthens your neural connections, helping you remember more, improve your logic skills, and develop flexible thinking.

Flexible thinking is an important part of psychological health. It helps you see different perspectives. For example, when you argue with someone, you can understand their counterargument and develop your own opinion.

Because of this, people who have more life experiences usually live happier and more relaxed lives.
